Bulletproof Delicious

It’s a winter wonderland outside right now. Footprints and paw prints have been erased by another layer of powdery snow. Gone are the days of throwing on snow pants and building snow forts – these days I throw on muck boots and fill water buckets. But it’s still an excuse to get outside for a bit, smell the crisp air, and take in the sights and sounds.

When I’ve had my fill of the outdoors, curling up with a steaming mug of coffee or tea is just the ticket for fighting off the winter chill. I’ve been in the habit of topping off my coffee with coconut creamer, but recently I discovered an even more tasty – and nutritious – way to enjoy my morning cup.

It’s called bulletproof coffee, folks.

I’ve seen a number of different ways to make it, but basically, it entails adding fat to your coffee in the form of (grass-fed) butter and coconut oil. Now hold on – before you start to freak out, understand that fat in general is sorely misunderstood, especially saturated fat. Quite simply, the fat that you eat does not translate to fat on your body. Incorporating healthy fats into your diet will help sustain your energy levels, as well as enable your body to process nutrients more efficiently. We’ll delve further into this topic as we go along, I’m sure.

Ok, back to the coffee. Just give it a try. Play around with the ingredients until you’ve got it just right. Your taste buds will thank you.

Bulletproof Coffee (or Tea)

Ingredients:

1 cup of coffee or chai tea
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp grass-fed butter

Coconut creamer or organic half & half to taste (optional)
3-4 drops of vanilla stevia (optional)

Start out by brewing the coffee or tea the way you usually do.
Melt the butter and coconut oil.
Combine the oil mixture and the brewed coffee or tea in a blender.
Add stevia and creamer if desired.
Blend for about 15 seconds or until the oil is mixed in and a frothy foam is present.
Pour in a mug and drink up!
